ouise Amelia Phelps is a visionary artist and writer from London, England. She uses writing, painting, drawing and textiles to bring her visions to life. They echo mythical ways of being and her stories offer clues to the mysteries buried within them.
“ My work comes from following the threads of the dreams of which I write. These bright threads have taken me through the desert lands of Egypt and the Sinai, and the lush green lands of the British Isles. These places have enriched my experience of the earth and stars. From the home that I find in the vastness and diamond intensity of the Sinai sky I am inspired to create.”
She has exhibited throughout her life, her work being selected by the Royal Academy in London in 1994. She completed her degree in sculpture from Bath Spa University College in 2000 and had her first solo show in September of the following year. Her written work has been published in magazines and children’s books in the UK and Holland while personal readings of her stories continue to enchant young and old.
“ Inspiration is everywhere, nobody has to look far. I am lucky to find it everywhere all the time. Although different environments are more conducive to its fruition into a creative piece than others, the biggest battle I have to do, between the inspiration and the expression of it, is with myself.”
She has been involved with the Awakening Arts programme in Nevada City and has participated in residency programmes there in 2004 and 2005. She has exhibited in London, Cairo and New York and most recently at The Institute of Noetic Sciences in California. The spiritual element to her work is clear, evoking the beauty and mystery of the earth and the people who live on it.
“ My life and work are deeply rooted in the Celtic Tradition through which I honour the passing seasons through the Divine Feminine.”
Her work continues to evolve and expand quickly and it is both exciting and rare to see the manifestation of these magical worlds on canvas.
