“Always we held the thread, though the winds were great against us, we never let go. Still we held strong, and rejoiced always for galaxies turned inside us, and stars fell like rain behind our eyes.”
©Louise Amelia Phelps 2002, from the forthcoming book 'Songs from Her Shores'.
Textiles
I have created a series of 'Story Cloths' which are embroidered symbolic pieces that relate to my stories. These two pieces are made of Egyptian silk thread on black cotton with bead work around the edges. I also have a huge story shawl that I wear when I read the stories. So far this has taken 5 years to create and I am adding to it all the time. When I have enough I hope to exhibit them, they a long time to make.
Eartheart Fibres
I spin wool, I really love it. I spin it and people who like to work with handspun fibres buy it and embroiderer's buy small bundles to use for embellishing. I hope to be adding wool dyed with plants I have grown soon.” Contact info@thedreamingpages.com
I take commissions for individual embroidery projects. Here are some examples of work I have done. I work on silk, cotton and velvet using beads and a range of threads of stranded cotton and Egyptian silks. I often use reclaimed vintage silks and fabrics to work on.
I make bags and bracelets out of vintage fabric and ribbons under a label called 'Angelfire' here are some of the bracelets and bags. I shall be adding clothing in 2009. Contact me info@thedreamingpages.com for any enquiries you may have.
